Tinubu Approves Establishment of New Educational Institutions in Abia and Imo States

President Bola Tinubu has signed three bills into law to establish new federal educational institutions in Abia and Imo States, aimed at enhancing academic opportunities, research, and development in the Southeast region.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has officially signed three bills into law, paving the way for the creation of new federal institutions in Abia and Imo States. The bills, sponsored by Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Okezie Kalu, include:

  • Federal College of Education, Bende, Abia State
  • Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Bende, Abia State
  • Federal University, Okigwe, Imo State

According to a statement by Levinus Nwabughiogu, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Speaker, the new college in Bende will offer comprehensive training in various disciplines including technology, applied sciences, commerce, humanities, arts, and management. It will also promote research and development and establish administrative and disciplinary frameworks led by a Provost and appointed officials.

The Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Item, Bende, aims to deliver top-tier education and research in medical fields. It will offer both undergraduate and postgraduate programs and work on innovations in health policy and care delivery to improve overall healthcare outcomes in the region.

Nwabughiogu also noted that the Federal University in Okigwe will meet the growing educational demands of the Southeast and support academic research and training.

Deputy Speaker Kalu Reacts

Deputy Speaker Kalu expressed deep appreciation to President Tinubu, the Nigerian Senate, fellow House members, and citizens for their support. He emphasized that the establishment of these institutions represents a major step forward in expanding educational access and promoting development in the region.

Kalu encouraged continued support for the Tinubu administration, promising that more benefits of democratic governance would reach the Southeast.
