Just days after earning her PhD, Nigerian academic Dr. Fortune Gomo was fatally stabbed in Dundee while walking with her daughter, prompting public outrage and concerns over safety.


What should have been a time of celebration turned into a devastating tragedy as Dr. Fortune Gomo, a UK-based Nigerian academic, was brutally killed just days after achieving a major milestone—earning her PhD from the University of Dundee.
The news was shared online by a concerned netizen, Prince Adeshina, who recounted the horrifying incident. Dr. Gomo was reportedly walking along South Road in Dundee with her 10-year-old daughter at approximately 4:25 p.m. when she was suddenly attacked. A 20-year-old man, now in police custody, allegedly stabbed her in broad daylight. Despite swift response from emergency services, she succumbed to her injuries at the scene.
“Dr. Fortune Gomo, who had just completed her PhD at the University of Dundee, was sadly stabbed to death in broad daylight… Paramedics tried to help, but she died at the scene,” the post read.
