The ABU Zaria Business Administration Class of 1998 is mourning the kidnapping and killing of their classmate, Mohammed Sani Sulaimon, and has called on the government and society to urgently address Nigeria’s worsening insecurity and support victims’ families.
The 1998 graduating class of the Department of Business Administration at Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, is in mourning following the heartbreaking loss of their classmate, Mohammed Sani Sulaimon (MSS), who was recently abducted and killed by kidnappers.
Sulaimon, a Regional Manager with Union Bank Plc, was on an official trip across the North-Western region when he was kidnapped along the Funtua-Gusau Road on August 4, 2025.
In a public statement, the ABU Business Administration Alumni (Class of ’98) condemned the deteriorating security situation in Nigeria and called for immediate government action. The group urged the authorities to take strong, effective measures to confront the root causes of insecurity and to ensure the safety of citizens, particularly in vulnerable areas.
They further appealed for improved protection of lives and property and called for financial and emotional support for families affected by such tragedies. “The pain endured by the families of victims must not go unnoticed or unsupported,” they said.
The alumni also rallied civil society groups, fellow citizens, and key stakeholders to unite in demanding real change. “We can no longer afford to stay silent in the face of such horrors,” the statement emphasized.
“We owe it to MSS—and to countless others who have met similar fates—to raise our voices. Their lives mattered, and we must not allow insecurity to continue to threaten our collective existence.”
The group expressed heartfelt condolences to MSS’s family and said they are organizing efforts to assist them through this difficult time. “May the Almighty grant them strength and peace,” the message concluded.
As the nation continues to struggle with widespread insecurity, the appeal from ABU Zaria’s 1998 class stands as a stark reminder of the urgent need for unified, national action to protect the lives of Nigerian citizens.
