A Journey Built on Excellence and Determination
Milton graduated from Detroit High School with an exceptional 4.3 GPA, driven by a deep interest in science and the human brain. Throughout high school, he immersed himself in science and medical symposiums—spaces where he was often the only African-American male present. Instead of letting that discourage him, he used it as fuel to build confidence and eventually committed himself to encouraging more representation in STEM fields.
His academic record, leadership qualities, and commitment to scientific research quickly drew national attention.
A Flood of Scholarship Offers
Milton’s hard work paid off spectacularly. He received offers worth over $3 million, including highly competitive awards such as:
- Columbia Scholar – Columbia University
- Richmond Scholar – University of Richmond
- Wayne State Med Direct – a guaranteed pathway to medical training
These recognitions highlighted not only his academic talent but also his dedication to medicine, community service, and mentorship.
The Moment Stanford Said Yes
Milton learned of his Stanford University acceptance during an early admission round. Surrounded by his mother and sister—both already dressed in Stanford gear—he opened the letter quietly, while the room erupted in joy. His sister celebrated through dance, and his mother shed tears of pride.
He later joked that he would have been embarrassed if he hadn’t been accepted, considering they were all already wearing Stanford shirts.
Why Stanford Became His First Choice
Although Stanford was not originally his “dream school,” Milton grew drawn to it during his sophomore year. The university’s calm academic atmosphere, collaborative culture, and renowned psychology program aligned perfectly with his interests.
He will major in psychology with a focus on neuroscience, and his long-term dream is to become a neurosurgeon who works to reduce health disparities and increase minority representation in medicine.
More Than Academics
Outside his scholarly pursuits, Milton also has an interest in modeling, showing his talents extend beyond the classroom.
He credits his mother as the foundation of his success, saying:
“My success wouldn’t have been possible without her.”
