Brilliant Ghanaian Medical Student Emerges Best with 15 out of 21 Awards

Edward Akosah Danso, a brilliant Ghanaian medical student, made history by winning 15 out of 21 awards at the University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences, showcasing his dedication and academic excellence.

A remarkable young man from Ghana, Edward Akosah Danso, has made history at the University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences (UCCSMS) by emerging as the Best Medical Student, winning an unprecedented 15 out of 21 awards. This achievement marks a first in the institution’s history, showcasing Edward’s dedication, discipline, and academic excellence.

Edward’s journey to becoming a medical doctor began at a very young age. He recalls saying he wanted to be a doctor, referring to himself as Dr. Nana Akosah Danso, even before he could remember saying it. This childhood dream became a reality when he entered UCCSMS in August 2015, at just 18 years old.

Over the next six years, Edward committed himself to academic excellence, putting in extra hours of study and avoiding distractions. His hard work paid off in 2021 when he graduated with extraordinary distinction, winning awards such as Best Student in Anatomy, Best Graduating Clinical Student, and Best Graduating Male Student.

Edward’s success is attributed to his unwavering family support. He expressed gratitude to his mother and family for their encouragement and backing throughout his journey. The emotional moment when his name was repeatedly called during the graduation ceremony was made even sweeter by the smile on his mother’s face.

Looking ahead, Edward aims to pursue a career in academia as a Professor of Surgery, with a focus on transplant surgery. He hopes to establish a transplant program in Ghana, addressing the growing burden of chronic kidney disease, liver disease, and diabetes.

Edward’s advice to younger medical students is to take their preclinical years seriously, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive understanding of basic sciences for success in clinical years.
