Despite Failing in High School, Young Lady Defies Odds to Earn 3.75/4.00 First-Class Degree

Brianna Clarke, a Jamaican who once failed key high school exams, defied the odds by retaking them, excelling at UTech Jamaica, and graduating as top student with a First-Class 3.75/4.00 degree—proving resilience can rewrite any academic story.

Brianna Clarke, a Jamaican lady, turned early academic setbacks into an inspiring success story. She graduated with a First-Class degree (3.75/4.00 GPA) in Communication Arts and Technology from University of Technology (UTech), Jamaica.

Brianna’s journey wasn’t straightforward. As a high school senior, she didn’t complete required CSEC subjects. Instead of giving up, she retake them, passed, and enrolled in UTech’s BACAT program. She maintained excellence, graduating with First Class Honours and emerging as Top Student in 2026.

“Failure became my greatest teacher and motivator,” Brianna said. She developed skills in project coordination, multimedia production, and digital media strategy. Her documentary, “The Fertile Fault Line,” won Most Outstanding Project at Media Magnified.

Brianna faced exhaustion and self-doubt, especially during her capstone project. But she adapted, pushing forward and turning challenges into growth opportunities. She also served as Executive Assistant on the FELS Committee, organizing initiatives like FELS Games Day.

Now industry-bound, Brianna remains committed to continuous learning, faith, and personal growth. She advises struggling students to stay powerful, curious, disciplined, and fearless of failure.
