The University of Ibadan has asked 226 undergraduate students to withdraw over poor Cumulative Grade Point Average.
The Senate of the university met last Monday to ratify the results of the 2024/2025 session for graduating and non-graduating students, approving that students with a CGPA below 1.0 be advised to withdraw.
Following the Senate’s approval, the affected students will henceforth be unable to access the school portal for registration.
The students asked to withdraw cut across faculties and span 100 to 500 levels.
An official of the university informed The PUNCH that the Faculty of Science recorded the highest number, with 79 students asked to withdraw, followed by the Faculty of Technology with 45, and the Faculty of Agriculture with 35.
Both the College of Medicine and the Faculty of Education have 18 affected students each, while Renewable Natural Resources has 10.
Others are the Faculty of Arts, nine students; Economics and Management Sciences, four; Law, three; Veterinary Medicine, two; and Environmental Design and Management, three.
The withdrawal of poorly performing students is an almost yearly exercise, which students have tagged “tsunami,” with 408 students asked to withdraw in 2018.
Meanwhile, new students physically resumed for the 2025/2026 academic session on Monday.
