A FUTO graduate, Melvin Chukwukelunze, earned a first-class degree in Software Engineering and announced plans to launch a legal-tech platform aimed at transforming legal practice across Africa.

A graduate of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), Melvin Chukwukelunze, has celebrated earning a first-class degree in Software Engineering while unveiling plans to launch a technology platform aimed at improving legal practice across Africa.
Sharing his journey on LinkedIn, Melvin explained that his career aspirations changed several times while growing up. He initially dreamed of becoming an astronaut, pharmacist, and later a neurosurgeon. However, his interest shifted to technology after reading about Tesla CEO Elon Musk during his first year of secondary school, inspiring him to pursue a future in tech.
His path to Software Engineering was not straightforward. After initially considering Chemical Engineering and later Mechatronics Engineering, issues with uploading his WAEC results led him to gain admission through FUTO’s supplementary list, where he was offered Software Engineering. He described the development as one of the best things that ever happened to him.
Reflecting on his university years, Melvin said the experience was demanding, involving long nights of study, difficult examinations, and personal growth. Beyond academics, he highlighted the friendships and relationships he built as some of the most valuable parts of his journey.
Following his graduation, Melvin announced plans to launch “llava,” a legal technology platform designed to modernize and transform legal practice in Africa by combining technology with innovative solutions for legal professionals.
He encouraged young people to remain focused on their goals, stressing that one’s background does not determine future success and that persistence and trust in the process can lead to remarkable achievements.
His accomplishment attracted praise on LinkedIn, where many users congratulated him and expressed optimism about the impact his planned legal-tech venture could have on society.
