UNILORIN Graduate Emerges Best Nigerian Law School Student After Record-Breaking Academic Journey

Israel Adeniyi, a UNILORIN law graduate with a record-breaking 4.83 CGPA, emerged as the 2026 Overall Best Student at the Nigerian Law School among 6,009 successful candidates after overcoming early academic setbacks through discipline, consistency and determination.

Israel Adeniyi, a graduate of the University of Ilorin (UNILORIN), has emerged as the Overall Best Student at the Nigerian Law School among 6,009 successful candidates in the 2026 academic year. He graduated from UNILORIN’s Faculty of Law with an impressive CGPA of 4.83 out of 5.0, reportedly the highest ever recorded in the faculty’s history. Adeniyi studied at the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School, where he described the environment as highly demanding and competitive.

His journey began with an impressive admission performance, as he scored 297 in the UTME and 84 in the post-UTME examination, placing him among the top successful candidates admitted to study Law at UNILORIN. However, his university experience was not without setbacks. During his first year, he struggled with a poor first-semester result, including a D grade in a European literature course, which affected his confidence.

Rather than allowing the setback to discourage him, Adeniyi became more determined and worked harder. By his second year, he had risen to the top of his class and eventually recorded a perfect 5.0 GPA on four occasions. He said the experience taught him that failure is not final but an opportunity to learn, improve and become better.

Adeniyi attributed his academic success to discipline, consistency and studying strategically. He explained that he paid attention to marking schemes and tried to understand what examiners expected instead of simply focusing on everything highlighted in textbooks. He also emphasised the importance of getting enough sleep, noting that consistency played a major role in his achievements.

The young lawyer dedicated his success to God, his teachers, mentors and scholarship sponsors. He also remembered his late father, saying that although his father was no longer alive to witness the achievement, his memory remained a source of motivation. Looking ahead, Adeniyi said he hopes to influence policy, mentor future lawyers, write and speak on important issues, and use the law as a tool for social change.
