A talented Nigerian student, Rasheed Adeoti, has graduated with first-class honors in Mathematics from the University of Ilorin, achieving an impressive 4.79 out of a possible 5.00 cumulative grade point average. Rasheed shared his accomplishment on LinkedIn, highlighting that he overcame various challenges along the way.
Reflecting on his journey, Rasheed revealed that he was an average student in high school, often struggling academically. However, Mathematics stood out as the one subject that brought him joy and motivation.
Despite his passion for Mathematics, Rasheed faced setbacks after high school when he failed English in his first attempt at the West African Senior Certificate Examination, preventing him from applying to any university. During this time, he met new people, changed his environment, and found inspiration in the successes of others.
Determined to succeed, Rasheed re-sat the exams and passed English, paving the way for university admission. Although he initially aspired to study Computer Science, he shifted his focus to Mathematics, a decision that ultimately changed his life.
From the start of his time at the University of Ilorin, Rasheed was dedicated to excelling both academically and in extracurricular activities. He co-founded The Emerging Minds Foundation, providing free tech courses to students, and was recognized with the MTN Foundation Scholarship. Rasheed also took on the role of mentoring fellow students.
Rasheed’s transformation from a struggling student to a first-class graduate taught him that setbacks are not the end, but rather the beginning of something greater. He encourages students facing challenges to stay dedicated, work hard, and never give up on their dreams, reminding them that it’s never too late to change their story.
