What is Catchment Area

In every merit admission list of every school in Nigeria, the admission list is based on three category; The School Merit Cutoff Mark, EDUCATIONAL LESS PRIVILEGED STATES (ELPS), and Catchment Area. 

From the name of ELDS, I guess you already know what it means. So I will just focus on explaining what catchment area meansCatchment Area means states near a particular University.

To break it down a little bit, we can also say the geographical areas in which an institution is located.

Every Federal Government universities in Nigeria have their own catchment areas that they primarily serves.

This does not mean that the school will not admit students outside the catchment area, but the catchment areas are given special considerations.

  1. Ahmadu Bello University (ABU): Kaduna Adamawa , Bauchi, Benue, Borno, Jigawa, Kaduna, Kano, Gombe, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Katsina, Niger, Plateau, Sokoto,
