A video of the outbreak obtained by the NATION showed a building gutted while students gathered in confusion at the Gubi permanent site along Kano road.
Our correspondent learnt students around the premises of the department had to run for safety while efforts were made to put out the fire.
It took the intervention of the fire service team in the campus to get the situation under control.
A source, who spoke under condition of anonymity, said though no life was lost valuable documents and other items were destroyed by the fire outbreak.
It was also gathered about 14 offices were affected.
Efforts to speak to the University authorities on the actual cause of the outbreak proved abortive as at press time.
