A teacher has been able to raise more than KSh 12 million (N43,620,344.87) to help feed needy students in her locale.

Turquoise LeJune Parker, who teaches at Lakewood Elementary School in Durham, North Carolina, recently held a fundraiser which collected KSh 12m (N43,620,344.87) in a move to help the less fortunate kids.
According to CNN, the kind teacher named her cause Mrs. Parker’s Professors Fundraiser, and from the money – she purchased and packed 5,200 bags of food.
She distributed the bags to 12 schools in the Durham Public School district, assisting families in the plight to feed the children.
WLWT5 reports that about 98% of students in the local schools rely on cheap or free lunches from their learning institutions, which is not available when the schools close for holidays.
For Parker, she always wanted to be a teacher since her childhood and would set up her teddy bears as if they were students.
She teaches 400 students and never fails to let them know how she loves and believes in them.
She started her campaign in 2015 after one parent confided in her about her inability to provide for her child during the holidays.
In December 2015, parker sent messages to all her contacts asking if they would like to donate to the needy kids.
She raised KSh 57k (N207,196.640) in her first year, and in 2020 she was able to raise a whopping KSh 6.2 million (N22,537,178.18). She broke that record by raising double the amount in 2021.
Parker said her cause made her cry a little nearly every day as she did not expect such overwhelming support.
About 60 volunteers joined parker in buying food from local markets and took days to pack the bags and deliver them to schools before December 11.
