Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has received a N500 million award from JAMB after emerging as the overall best-performing institution in the 5th National Admissions Awards for the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 sessions.


Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, has been awarded N500 million by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) after emerging as the overall best-performing institution in the 5th edition of the National Tertiary Admissions Performance-Merit Awards (NATAP-M), covering the 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 admission sessions.
According to a statement from ABU’s Public Affairs Directorate, the university scored an impressive aggregate of 14 points across five assessment categories, securing its position as the top institution nationwide.
At a ceremony in Abuja, the Minister of State for Education, Professor Suwaiba Ahmed, presented the award to ABU’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adamu Ahmed. The JAMB Registrar, Professor Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede, joined other senior JAMB officials in facilitating the presentation.
Also present were key ABU representatives including members of its Governing Council, Professor Mato D. Dogara and Dr. Claris Ujah, the University Registrar, Malam Rabiu Samaila, and Admissions Officer, Malam Mohammed Aminu Garba.
During the event, Professor Oloyede stated that the awards were designed to promote equitable national representation in admissions, support gender balance in tertiary education, enhance transparency, and encourage global competitiveness among Nigerian institutions.
Receiving the award, Professor Ahmed expressed deep gratitude to JAMB, the university’s Senate, Governing Council, and alumni, pledging continued commitment to excellence and global rankings advancement for Nigerian universities.
