Adamawa orders closure of schools over coronavirus

Adamawa State Government has ordered the closure of all schools with effect from next week, March 27.

This is an effort to prevent the invasion of coronavirus disease, according to a statement released late on Thursday from the state Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development.

The statement, signed by Nancie S. Ahmadu, an official of the ministry, said the measure was a bold move to safeguard the people of the state in view of the mode in which the disease is transmitted.

”All schools must conduct their examinations and close on Friday, March 27, 2020. The above should be highly adhered to by all authorities concerned,” the statement said.

The ministry urged all students and pupils to maintain personal hygiene while they rush activities to close down by the specified date.

On its own, the state Ministry of Health had earlier on Thursday dispelled a growing rumour of coronavirus outbreak in the state.

The rumour had attributed to coronavirus a case of pneumonia with two pupils of an unnamed school in Yola, according to the Commissioner of Health, Professor Abdullahi Isa, who called the press to say that the story was untrue.
