After Studying for 8 Years Instead of 6, Young Nigerian Lady Graduates with Dentistry Degree with Distinction

Adebanke Anifowose persevered through COVID-19 disruptions and prolonged strikes to complete her Dentistry program at the University of Lagos, graduating with distinction after eight years instead of six.

A brilliant Nigerian woman, Adebanke Anifowose, has successfully earned her Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) degree from the University of Lagos, graduating with distinction after an academic journey that lasted eight years instead of the usual six.

Adebanke began her studies in 2017 at the College of Medicine, UNILAG, with hopes of completing her Dentistry program within the standard timeframe. However, her journey was extended by major disruptions, including the COVID-19 pandemic and prolonged academic union strikes in Nigeria. These challenges brought exhaustion, uncertainty, and intense pressure, but she remained determined and focused.

Despite the setbacks, Adebanke persevered and finally graduated in 2026 with outstanding results, a testament to her resilience, discipline, and unwavering faith.

Sharing her achievement on Instagram, she described medical and dental school as the longest and most demanding phase of her life—one that tested her physically, mentally, and emotionally. She expressed deep gratitude to God for carrying her through moments of exhaustion, silent prayers, and overwhelming pressure.

She also applauded herself for not giving up when quitting seemed reasonable, acknowledging the countless days she showed up despite fatigue, anxiety, burnout, and doubt. Her words highlighted the hidden realities of medical training: long nights, intense examinations, missed life moments, and the constant weight of expectations.

Adebanke’s story stands as a powerful reminder that delays do not deny success—and that perseverance can turn prolonged struggles into remarkable victories.
