28-Year-Old Mom of Three Earns Two Bachelor’s and a Master’s Degree Simultaneously from UCLA

Deanna Jordan, a 28-year-old mother of three from Compton, defied the odds by earning two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree simultaneously from UCLA while raising her children, leading community initiatives, and paving the way for a future in law.

Deanna Jordan, a resilient 28-year-old mother of three from Compton, California, has achieved an extraordinary academic milestone by graduating from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) with two bachelor’s degrees and a master’s degree — all at once.

Raised in a challenging environment, Deanna became a mother at 18 and had three sons by the age of 22. Determined to break generational barriers and set an example for her children, she began her academic journey at West Los Angeles College before transferring to UCLA. There, she earned dual bachelor’s degrees in African American Studies and Gender Studies, with a minor in Education, while simultaneously completing her master’s in African American Studies.

Driven by a desire to inspire her children and uplift her community, Deanna founded the Compton Pipeline Taskforce, a mentorship initiative aimed at guiding local students toward higher education. She managed her rigorous academic schedule alongside motherhood and community activism, relying on scholarships, grants, and student loans to finance her education.

“I wanted my sons to see a legacy of college achievement,” Deanna said. As the first in her family to attend college, she now plans to pursue a law degree and become a district attorney to further her advocacy for marginalized communities. Her journey stands as a powerful inspiration to single mothers and young women of color everywhere.
