The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Gombe State University has declared an indefinite strike over unresolved welfare issues, including non-implementation of the 2021 Memorandum of Action, lack of funding, non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances, failure to implement the minimum wage, and outstanding promotion arrears and wage awards.

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has initiated an indefinite strike at Gombe State University (GSU) due to unresolved welfare issues.
Dr. Suleiman Salihu Jauro, the ASUU branch chairman, stated that the strike was necessary because of inadequate teaching and learning conditions at the university.Despite previous attempts to address these issues, including the non-implementation of the 2021 Memorandum of Action (MoA) with the state government, no progress has been made.
Key grievances include the lack of funding for the university, non-payment of Earned Academic Allowances (EAA) for over five years, and the failure to implement a minimum wage of N30,000 signed into law in 2020.
Additionally, there are outstanding promotion arrears and wage awards that have not been addressed. This marks the first internal strike at GSU since its establishment 20 years ago.
Although the state government recently approved N265 million for promotion arrears, Dr. Jauro indicated that the payment has not yet been received, as they only learned of the approval through media reports
