The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has applauded the outstanding performance of Benedict Ater, who made history at the Nigerian Law School (NLS) by clinching 18 awards, including the prestigious Council of Legal Education (CLE) Star Prize.
At the recent call to bar ceremony, held at the Body of Benchers Complex, Abuja, Ater emerged as the overall best student, standing out among his peers for his exceptional results and dedication.

Academic Brilliance from Makurdi to National Spotlight
Ater, a graduate of Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM)—formerly known as Benue State University—added to his alma mater’s legacy by sweeping multiple top awards. His feat cements his reputation as one of the finest graduates in the history of the institution.

His haul included:

- Overall Best Student of the Year
- Most Promising Student of the Year

Call for Integrity Among New Lawyers
During the ceremony, the Director General of the Nigerian Law School, Isa Hayatu Chiroma, SAN, reminded newly called lawyers that their reputation is their strongest asset, urging them to uphold honesty and professionalism throughout their careers.
Also speaking, Olukayode Olaiwola, Chairman of the Body of Benchers, advised the fresh barristers to embody fairness, caution, and respect, emphasizing the importance of treating others with dignity.
Benue State Celebrates
The Benue State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice and Public Order, Timothy Yangien, praised Ater, describing his success as expected given his track record of brilliance.
“This achievement has brought pride not only to Benue State but also to Nigeria. Young people should emulate his resilience and commitment,” he said.
A Life of Consistent Excellence
Reflecting on his journey, Ater expressed gratitude to God, noting that he has always emerged as the best graduating student—from primary school to university, and now at the Nigerian Law School.
“Not only was I called to the Nigerian Bar, I received 18 awards including Overall Best Student of the Year, Best Male Student of the Year, Best in Property Law Practice, Best in Professional Ethics and Skills, Most Promising Student of the Year, and the Council of Legal Education Star Prize. I thank God for not letting me down,” he said.
