A brilliant young African woman overcame odds to earn her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree in the United States after excelling academically from secondary school through engineering and postgraduate studies, culminating in her medical training at Johns Hopkins University.

A determined young woman named Ivy Manoor has successfully earned her Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from Johns Hopkins University in the United States, achieving a notable milestone in her medical career.
Originally from Ghana, Ivy excelled academically early on, graduating at the top of her class in the West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2014. This academic success helped open doors for her to study abroad.
She moved to the U.S. for higher education, where she earned her undergraduate degree in Biomedical Engineering from Columbia University. After completing her bachelor’s, she pursued a Master’s degree in Biomedical Engineering at the University of Rochester. Eventually, her passion for medicine led her to enroll in medical school.
Ivy completed her MD at Johns Hopkins University in 2023. After graduating, she continued her training at the same institution, joining a Trauma and Acute Care Surgery residency team—a significant achievement, especially as she is one of the few Black women in this demanding surgical specialty.
In addition to her clinical work, Ivy has been involved in research focused on how social factors affect heart health outcomes, and she has served in leadership roles in student medical organizations dedicated to supporting underrepresented groups in medicine.
