Iniubong Okon, a determined Nigerian scholar, has graduated from the University of Uyo with a First-Class degree in Chemistry, achieving an outstanding 4.52 CGPA and earning the title of Best Graduating Student in his department.
Okon’s academic journey began in 2019 with a reluctant mindset. His dream was to study Pharmacy, but three unsuccessful attempts at the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) led to his admission into the Chemistry program—a course he initially planned to leave after his first year, provided he excelled academically.
In his first year, Okon achieved a remarkable 4.55 CGPA, becoming the best student in his class. Encouraged by this success, he considered switching to Pharmacy but ultimately decided against it after advice from his examination officer, who assured him of his potential in Chemistry. This pivotal moment marked a shift in his focus toward mastering the subject.
Despite excelling in borrowed courses, Okon initially found Chemistry challenging. By his second year, he took a proactive approach, revisiting first-year materials to rebuild his foundation. This effort transformed his understanding of the subject and instilled in him key values like perseverance, adaptability, and self-awareness.
Personal challenges occasionally impacted his performance, but he found inspiration in the stories of past best-graduating students, motivating him to strive for excellence.
Okon actively participated in conferences, seminars, and student communities that emphasized leadership, teamwork, and personal development. These experiences not only broadened his understanding of Chemistry but also reinforced his passion for the field.
Reflecting on his journey, Okon expressed gratitude to God for his stability, to his family for their unwavering support, and to his lecturers for their guidance. He also thanked his friends for their encouragement throughout his academic pursuit.
Okon’s journey highlights the power of resilience, dedication, and a willingness to adapt. As he embarks on the next chapter of his life, he remains committed to continuous learning and making meaningful contributions in his field.
