Brilliant High School Graduate Turned Hard Laborer, Gets Scholarship to Study Law

Cursory: A young man in Ghana who resorted to illegal mining after secondary school has been offered a new chance by GNPC. Despite his excellent results in the WASSCE, financial constraints prevented him from pursuing further education.

Recall the story of the boy who turned to illegal mining in Ghana after secondary school, despite having an outstanding WAEC result, due to financial constraints. Lady luck has finally found him.

The 21-year-old former student of Mpohor SHS performed creditably in the West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in 2021, scoring 5As and 3Bs across various subjects. However, he could not continue his education in any tertiary institution because he is had no stable source of finance.

His story and pictures attached to the story showed him looking dirty as a result of the dangerous mining activities, this condition made netizens to empathize Koomson’s story and pleaded with benevolent individuals and organisations to come to his aid. Thankfully, the GNPC has stepped in to save the young man’s future.

“We are enrolling him on the GNPC scholarship immediately to put his dreams of becoming a lawyer back on track and we are just as excited to offer him an opportunity to facilitate this in consonance with the tenets of our Education & Training mandate,” Executive Director of the GNPC Foundation, Dr Dominic Eduah said.

Additionally, he stated that the organization is working together with other pertinent parties to ensure Koomson’s admission to the University of Ghana Law School in the upcoming academic year. Koomson expressed his appreciation to the GNPC and made a commitment to diligently study and maximize the opportunity that has been presented to him.
