A law student of University of Abuja was remanded in Kuje Correctional Facility after being accused of allegedly luring and sexually assaulting a 100-level medical student under the pretext of helping her access a student loan.

A 40-year-old law student of University of Abuja, Monday Goodluck, has been remanded in Kuje Correctional Facility over allegations of raping a 100-level Medicine and Surgery student.
The order was given on Wednesday by Justice M.S. Idris of the FCT High Court after rejecting an oral bail application filed by the defendant’s lawyer, Samson Francis. The judge instructed the defence counsel to submit a formal written application and serve it to the prosecution before the court could consider bail.
The case was adjourned until June 9 for further hearing.
According to the prosecution, led by Alexander Agbo, the defendant allegedly lured the student to his residence by claiming he could help her secure approval for the Nigerian Education Loan Fund, known as NELFUND. The alleged incident reportedly took place around 11 p.m. on March 25.
The prosecution further accused Goodluck of sexually assaulting the student and causing physical injuries while attempting to stop her from screaming by forcing his fingers into her mouth. The charges were filed under sections of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act.
However, the defendant pleaded not guilty to the allegations brought against him in court.
