Yobe State Commissioner for Higher Education Professor Mohammed Munkaila has said that the Covid-19 challenge to education sector is forcing his ministry to articulate plans for the State Government to support its tertiary institutions with all resources to be IT-driven in their teaching, learning and research.
Professor Mohammed Munkaila said on Wednesday while lamenting on the abrupt disruption of academic activities at the various higher institutions of learning due to measures taken to stop the spread of the pandemic said that the post-covid-19 era would witness massive investment on the ICT facilities for effective virtual learning and access to education.
The Commissioner further revealed that students at all levels have never had it so bad for being out of classroom long enough due to pandemic in the recent past stressing the ministry would propose to the State Government to provide high definition internet broadband to all tertiary institutions to promote e-learning.
This according to him would also encourage the higher institutions of learning to improve their visibility in the cyberspace in addition to ensure intellectual properties sharing and transfer with other sister institutions across the globe.

He revealed that from his recent need-assessment tour to State own tertiary schools, the ministry discovered that government has invested so much to create a conductive atmosphere in these schools explaining more resources are needed to improve e-library in all tertiary institutions so that students can remotely access their schools’ library.
The commissioner then reaffirmed that the ministry as supervising body of the tertiary institutions would not joke with the quality teaching and research of the staff of the all educational institution stressing business of education in such institution would not be as usual taking into consideration of government investment in the sector.
He urged all state own educational institution to introduce more programmes that would make their students self-reliant to reduce rate of unemployed youth in Yobe State.
