Deputy Registrar Urges FG to Lift NYSC Ban on Part-Time Polytechnic Students

The Deputy Registrar of Federal Polytechnic Offa, Olayinka Iroye, has urged the Federal Government to lift the NYSC ban on polytechnic graduates with part-time OND qualifications, citing widespread frustration and calls for fairness from students, families, and stakeholders.

The Deputy Registrar of the Federal Polytechnic Offa, Olayinka Iroye, has appealed to the Federal Government to reconsider its policy barring polytechnic graduates who completed their Ordinary National Diploma (OND) on a part-time basis from participating in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).

In a statement issued on Saturday, Iroye urged the Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, to address the exclusion policy, describing it as a source of disappointment and frustration for students, their families, and society. He emphasized that the restriction unfairly penalizes students who transitioned from part-time OND programs to full-time Higher National Diploma (HND) programs, despite their academic compliance and dedication.

“This policy shift has caused significant outcry from scholars, media, and student organizations like the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS),” Iroye stated.

He further noted that many affected students have been left in limbo for nearly a year due to the sudden implementation of the policy. He argued that they deserve fair consideration rather than being penalized for pursuing an educational pathway approved by the system.

The call for a review comes amidst growing public demand for inclusivity and fairness in NYSC mobilization, with stakeholders urging the government to ensure equal opportunities for all Nigerian graduates.
