The Kaduna State Police Command yesterday confirmed that a driver was killed and three candidates of Joint Admissions and Matriculations Board (JAMB) examination were kidnapped at the weekend along the Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway.


The candidates were abducted alongside their one and half year-old baby sister, who was in the vehicle on Saturday along Kaduna-Birnin Gwari highway.
It was gathered that they were attacked on their way back home from Birnin Gwari after writing their examination. The spokesman for the command, ASP Mohammed Jalige, who confirmed the incident to Daily Trust said the driver of the vehicle was killed by their attackers.
Yes, they killed the driver of the vehicle and abducted four persons in the car. Three of the victims were teenagers who went to write JAMB and their baby sister,” he said.

He gave their names as Yusuf Sani, Ummi Sani, Umaira Mustapha but that he did not have name of the toddler.
The deceased driver was identified as Ibrahim Dawo, who worked for a former House of Representative member, Hassan Adamu Shekarau. A youth leader in Birnin Gwari town told our reporter anonymously that he passed through the road around 2pm same Saturday before the incident happened.
In the past three days, the road to Birnin Gwari has become very dangerous to ply due to activities of bandits. On Friday, a man was shot dead and some people abducted on Saturday around 3pm, a driver to a former House of Representatives Member was also killed by bandits,” he said. He said it was shocking that the criminals still attack innocent travellers despite the helicopter always hovering over the highway.
