Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has launched the 2024/2025 Ebonyi State Scholarship Programme, sending 745 students to pursue advanced degrees in Nigeria and the UK as part of his administration’s focus on human capital development.

Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has officially launched the 2024/2025 Ebonyi State Scholarship Programme, enabling 745 students to pursue advanced degrees in Nigerian and UK universities.
Announcing the initiative on his official X account, Governor Nwifuru described it as a historic milestone for the state, emphasizing its focus on human capital development. “Yesterday, with great joy and pride, we flagged off our historic initiative, marking it with the departure of 204 Ebonyians to the United Kingdom and 541 others to various universities in Nigeria for their Master’s and Doctorate programs,” he stated.
The governor highlighted the program as a strategic investment in the state’s future, prioritizing education over infrastructure. “This celebration is not just an investment in education but an investment in the future of our state. No infrastructure can be bigger than this,” he added.
Governor Nwifuru urged the scholarship recipients to take full advantage of the opportunity, advising them to immerse themselves in their studies, embrace new cultures, and build networks for personal and professional growth. He also reminded them of their obligation to contribute to the state’s development upon their return.
“Your ultimate mission lies here at home. Upon completing your studies, we expect you to return to Ebonyi and channel your expertise into sectors that need your innovation, creativity, and leadership,” he said.
Governor Nwifuru recently presented a 2025 state budget of ₦396.59 billion, prioritizing education with a ₦70.14 billion allocation, the highest sectoral funding.
The administration is focusing on reforms in education, particularly in technology and science, and has committed to recruiting teachers skilled in entrepreneurial education.
This initiative aligns with federal efforts to boost education, including a proposed ₦3.5 trillion federal education budget and a $500 million World Bank loan to enhance basic education.
The scholarship program reflects Ebonyi State’s dedication to fostering economic self-reliance, industrialization, and improved living standards through strategic investments in education and human capital development.
