Eight UNIJOS students were killed and three others injured when their bus, reportedly speeding and attempting a risky overtaking, collided with a trailer on Zaria Road in Jos early Thursday morning.

Eight students of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) were killed in a fatal road accident along Zaria Road in Jos, Plateau State. The crash occurred early Thursday morning when a bus transporting the students collided with a trailer near Unity Bank.
Eyewitnesses reported that eleven students were inside the bus. Seven died on the spot, while an eighth victim passed away later in the hospital. Three others survived and are currently receiving treatment for their injuries.
Peter Longsan, spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Plateau State, confirmed the incident, noting that the agency received a distress call at about 2:30 a.m. He stated that the collision involved a student bus and a trailer, and that all the victims were male UNIJOS students.
Witness accounts indicated that the bus had been speeding and attempted a dangerous overtaking maneuver, which likely caused the driver to lose control before the crash.
