Nollywood pioneer female producer, Emem Isong-Misode earned a doctorate in Film and Media Arts from the University for the Creative Arts in the UK, following a four-year study on hybridity in Nigerian Nollywood cinema, which she celebrated on Instagram.


Nollywood pioneer Emem Isong-Misode, an accomplished producer, screenwriter, and director who moved to the United States a few years ago, has earned a doctorate in Film and Media Arts from the University for the Creative Arts in the United Kingdom.
Known for producing films like “The Breaking Point,” “Reloaded,” “Private Sin,” and “She Devil,” Emem completed a four-year program that focused on researching hybridity and its role in shaping identity within Nigerian Nollywood cinema, drawing on her over 25 years of filmmaking experience.
Celebrating on Instagram, she wrote, “It has been a full circle with this doctoral research at the University for the Creative Arts. I am grateful for their support throughout this journey. 2020 to 2024—four years of intense study. And now, after a comprehensive viva presentation, feedback, and recommendations, I humbly present to you, Dr. Emem Isong Misode (PhD).”
