Edo IDP First-Class Graduate Secures US University PhD Scholarship

Amos Ishaku, an internally displaced person from Edo State, earned a first-class degree in Chemical Engineering and multiple awards before securing a fully-funded PhD scholarship at the University of Illinois, Chicago, highlighting the success of the Home for the Needy Foundation’s support efforts.

Amos Ishaku, a first-class graduate and internally displaced person from the Uhorgua camp in Edo State, has been awarded a fully-funded PhD scholarship at the University of Illinois, Chicago, USA.

Ishaku graduated in November 2023 with a first-class degree in Chemical Engineering from Edo State University, Uzairue.

Speaking via telephone on Thursday, the camp’s Coordinator, Solomon Folorunsho, highlighted that Ishaku’s achievement demonstrates the positive outcomes that can result from providing support to the needy.

Managed by the Home for the Needy Foundation, the camp has seen several of its residents excel academically, with over 200 currently attending various universities and 150 more in the process of securing admission.

Folorunsho expressed gratitude to the donors and supporters who have made these successes possible, noting that Ishaku’s story is a testament to the impact of their contributions.

Ishaku, who was named Best Graduating Student of 2023, also received multiple awards, including the Mike Ozekhome award for overall best graduating student, Best Student in the Department of Chemical Engineering, and Best Student in Entrepreneurship and the Faculty of Engineering.

Folorunsho added that Ishaku is expected to begin his studies at the University of Illinois later this month.
