Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has indefinitely suspended three lecturers and a student over allegations of extortion and grade manipulation, following reports that they solicited money from students in exchange for higher grades.

The Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) has indefinitely suspended three lecturers and a student over allegations of extortion, grade manipulation, and selling grades to students.
The suspended lecturers—Dr. Ezugwu Samuel Ndubuisi (Anatomy), Dr. Ugwuishi Emeka (Physiology), and Dr. Nwafor Charles (Physiology)—were implicated in a report by the ESUT College of Medicine (ESUCOM) Disciplinary Committee, which was later reviewed by the university’s Management Committee. Also suspended was ThankGod Chinonso Obi, a Medical Laboratory Science student, who allegedly facilitated the misconduct.
According to a statement from ESUT’s Public Relations Department, the suspension took effect on January 23, 2025, pending further investigations by the Senior Staff Disciplinary Committee.
Reports suggest the student, acting as a class representative, allegedly collaborated with the lecturers to solicit money from students by falsely claiming they had failed exams or received low grades, prompting them to pay for grade adjustments. The scheme came to light after multiple complaints were filed.
