Students in Benue State held a vigil demanding justice after their classmate, Songo Gloria, was fatally shot by soldiers, prompting calls for an independent investigation and the withdrawal of military forces from the area.

Students from ATM Science and Technical College staged a solemn procession through the streets of Jato-Aka in Kwande Local Government Area of Benue State in memory of their classmate, Miss Songo Gloria, who died after being shot by soldiers.
The impromptu vigil saw students holding placards and chanting for justice. Described by peers as a quiet and hardworking young woman, Miss Gloria’s death has sparked anger and grief within the community.
“She was our friend. We demand accountability,” said one student, who asked to remain anonymous.
Student leaders called for an independent investigation into the incident and demanded the immediate withdrawal of military personnel from the area. “With one voice, we say: no more soldiers in Jato-Aka,” a student representative declared.
The students urged state and federal authorities to act swiftly to prevent further civilian deaths. Local leaders and community members echoed the call for justice, urging security agencies and oversight bodies to conduct a transparent investigation and engage with the bereaved family respectfully.
As of the time of the report, neither school officials nor local government representatives had issued any statements. The family of Miss Gloria has requested privacy as funeral arrangements are underway.
