Sambo, Exceptional Young Man Who Swept 9 Awards As Best Radiography Graduate

Cursory: Yahaya Sambo Tambuwal, a top-performing graduate from Usmanu Dafondiyo University, Sokoto, received nine awards for his outstanding achievements in Radiography. Despite initially planning to study Computer Science, he excelled in Radiography. Yahaya aspires to serve his community in Sokoto and explore opportunities in Industrial Radiography.

A talented Nigerian individual, Yahaya Sambo Tambuwal, has achieved remarkable recognition, receiving nine prestigious awards as the top-performing graduate of Usmanu Dafondiyo University, Sokoto (UDUS).

This recent graduate, who has been a source of inspiration for many Nigerians, pursued a Bachelor of Science degree in Radiography at UDUS.

On September 21, 2023, he was officially certified as a Radiographer in a ceremony held at the university auditorium. Hailing from Tambuwal in Sokoto State, located in the Northwest region of Nigeria, Yahaya proudly shared the details of his academic achievements.

He not only earned the title of the overall best-graduating student but also secured nine distinct awards recognizing his excellence in his major courses. These accolades include:

  1. The RRBN (Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria) C.E.O/Registrar’s award for the Overall best graduating student.
  2. Association of Radiographers of Nigeria (ARN) award for Overall best graduating student.
  3. ASUU Chairman’s award for the Overall best graduating student.
  4. Best in Radiographic Technique.
  5. Best in Radiographic Equipment.
  6. Best in Radiographic Imaging.
  7. College of Health Science, Provost’s award for the Overall best graduating student.
  8. Dean’s Award for the Overall best-graduating student.
  9. Radiography Department’s award for the Overall best-graduating student.

Yahaya’s academic journey commenced in 2016 when he secured admission to UDUS to pursue a degree in Radiography (B.Rad). Interestingly, he initially aspired to study Computer Science.

However, he encountered a unique circumstance as he received simultaneous admission offers. One came through the UTME (Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination) for Veterinary Medicine, while the other arrived via MATRIC, a remedial course designed for admission seekers at UDUS, for Radiography.

After thoughtful consideration, he made the decision to pursue Radiography, a choice that aligned better with his career goals and technological interests.

“I wanted to study Computer Science. So I went for a 1 year Matriculation program and also sat for the 2016 JAMB. Luckily, l got Veterinary Medicine via JAMB and Radiography via Matric. I had to choose Radiography because it best fits my career goals and is more aligned with technology,” he said.

Additionally, he shared that despite being the top student in his class, he did not graduate with First Class Honours but achieved a Second Class Upper classification.

His final Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) stood at an impressive 4.42 out of 5.0. Yahaya conveyed his enthusiasm regarding his entry into the medical field and credited his mother for her unwavering support throughout his academic journey.

Regarding his future plans as a certified Radiographer, he expressed a keen interest in practicing to contribute to the well-being of his community, with a particular focus on serving the Sokoto state government.

Furthermore, he revealed aspirations to explore the uncharted territory of Industrial Radiography.
