Explosion Kills Two Almajiri Students in Abuja Community

An explosion at an Islamiyyah school in Kuchibiyu, Abuja, killed two Almajiri students, injured two others, and prompted emergency responders to secure the area while investigations continue.

Tragedy struck the Kuchibiyu community in the Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) when an explosion at an Islamiyyah school claimed the lives of two Almajiri students and left two others injured.

According to a public health practitioner overseeing the local health facility, the incident occurred when one of the boys attempted to unwrap an object, suspected to be an improvised explosive device (IED), during a conversation with three friends. The explosion killed him instantly, injured the others, and caused one more fatality later at Kubwa General Hospital. The remaining two victims are currently receiving treatment.

Emergency responders, including police bomb disposal experts, soldiers, and Civil Defence personnel, quickly secured the area. The health official reported that calm has since been restored to the community, which had been peaceful before the incident.

While speculation about the nature of the explosion continues, the official could not confirm if it was linked to a suicide bombing. Attempts to obtain an official statement from the police were unsuccessful, as the officer in charge of the Kubwa Police Command was unavailable.
