The FDA has raised concerns about the increasing use of shisha among senior high school students in the Ashanti Region.
They also noted a rise in the abuse of other narcotics among students, posing a significant threat to their futures. The World Health Organization warns that shisha smoking can be as harmful as cigarette smoking.
Shisha, which is flavored tobacco inhaled through a water pipe, contains nicotine. WHO has highlighted its harmful effects, similar to cigarettes. An FDA Regulatory Officer, Prince Osei Owusu, emphasized the need for collaboration between the Ghana Education Service and the FDA to tackle this issue.
Additionally, TikTok influencer and health professional Manassa expressed her concern about the growing number of young shisha smokers in Ghana, urging them to research its harmful effects.
