Female Students Excel in NERC Energy Essay Competition

Three female secondary school students from Ekiti, Katsina, and Adamawa states won the 2024 NERC Energy Essay Competition, excelling among over 500 participants nationwide and receiving significant cash prizes and recognition for their outstanding essays on customer protection in the electricity sector.

Three female secondary school students from Ekiti, Katsina, and Adamawa states have emerged as the top winners of the 2024 Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) Energy Essay Competition, surpassing over 500 participants from across Nigeria.

NERC announced the results on its website and social media, revealing that the competition, marked by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), centered on the topic: “How does the New Customer Protection Regulation (CPR 2023) Protect the Rights & Obligations of Electricity Customers?”

Faith Ayomide Ogundola from Ekiti State University International College, Ado Ekiti, won first place, receiving ₦500,000, an award certificate, and a plaque.

In second place, Sumayya Ismail Abubakar from NAK Academy, Funtua, Katsina State, earned ₦300,000, along with a certificate and plaque.

Vanju Rejoice John from Government Day Senior Secondary School Bekaji, Adamawa State, secured third place, winning ₦200,000, and an additional ₦100,000 from NERC Vice Chairman Dr. Musiliu Oseni for her outstanding presentation skills.

The parents and guardians of the winners accepted plaques and cheques on behalf of the students’ schools and English teachers, acknowledging their support in the students’ academic achievements.

NERC’s posts on social media celebrated the winners, highlighting their remarkable performances and awards. The NERC, established under the Electricity Act 2023, regulates the electricity industry in Nigeria, ensuring a fair market, protecting consumer rights, and promoting investment in the sector.
