Christabel Chiamaka Amu, an SS2 student from Roseville Secondary School in Enugu, won the Coal City University Chancellor’s Annual Essay Contest with her essay titled “Social Media as a Double-Edged Sword.” The judges were impressed by her insightful analysis of the topic.
The prestigious contest, which invites senior secondary students from across the region, offers a platform for young thinkers to express their perspectives on important issues. Christabel’s essay stood out for its balanced exploration of both the benefits and drawbacks of social media.
In her work, Christabel highlighted social media’s role in connecting people, spreading information, and encouraging positive change, while also acknowledging the negative aspects like cyberbullying, misinformation, and privacy concerns. Her nuanced perspective and articulate writing earned her the top prize.
As the winner, Christabel was awarded a scholarship to Coal City University and a prize of 500,000 naira.
