Rufai Oseni Exposes Poor School Feeding in Nigeria with Shocking Video

Arise TV journalist Rufai Oseni sparked public outrage after sharing a viral video showing Nigerian schoolchildren being served a nutritionally deficient meal of eba and watery soup, exposing the failures of the country’s publicly funded school feeding program.

Renowned Arise TV journalist, Rufai Oseni, has stirred nationwide conversation after posting a troubling video that exposes the grim state of meal provisions in a Nigerian public school.

In the now-viral footage, schoolchildren are seen being served eba—a staple cassava dish—alongside a watery, colorless soup that appears completely devoid of essential nutrients. There was no visible protein, such as meat or fish, and no vegetables, raising serious concerns about the meal’s nutritional value. For many of these students, school meals are one of their only reliable sources of food.

Despite the poor quality, the children ate in silence, seemingly used to the meager portions—an image that speaks volumes about the depth of poverty, neglect, and normalization of substandard living conditions for many Nigerian students.

Rufai’s video has reignited public criticism of the country’s school feeding programs, many of which are publicly funded but plagued by corruption, poor oversight, and lack of transparency. The video has led to an outpouring of anger online, with citizens demanding accountability from government bodies responsible for welfare and education.

Activists, educators, and concerned citizens are now calling for an independent audit of the National Home-Grown School Feeding Programme, which was designed to improve nutrition and school attendance but has, in many areas, failed to meet its objectives.
