A fire outbreak at the LAUTECH Teaching Hospital in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, on Saturday caused extensive damage, with properties worth millions of naira destroyed.
The incident reportedly began around 5 a.m. in the pediatric consultant’s office, allegedly due to an electrical spark. The fire spread, affecting the hospital’s Emergency and Accident Unit.
The blaze resulted in the destruction of medical equipment, books, engines, electronic devices, and significant structural damage to the roofs and ceilings of the affected areas. In response to the emergency, 16 patients were safely evacuated from the ward.
The hospital’s Public Relations Officer, Omotayo Ogunleye, confirmed the incident but described it as minor, assuring the public that normal operations have since resumed. “Yes, it is true. It is a minor incident. But normal activities have resumed in the hospital,” Ogunleye stated, as reported by The Nation.
