UCH Fire Incident Exaggerated – Spokesperson

The Public Relations Officer of UCH, Ibadan, clarified that reports of a fire at the hospital were exaggerated, emphasizing that the minor incident, caused by a spark in a changeover box, was quickly contained and did not disrupt operations.

The Public Relations Officer of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Funmi Adetuyibi, has clarified that reports and images circulating on social media about a fire at the hospital have been exaggerated.

Responding to the viral story, Mrs. Adetuyibi explained in a statement on Sunday that the fire, caused by a spark in the changeover box at the Medicine Laboratory on the 3rd floor, was not as severe as portrayed and did not disrupt hospital activities.

She emphasized that most of the images being circulated online were not from UCH.

In her statement, she detailed that the fire occurred at 8:10 am on Sunday, September 22, 2024, and was quickly contained by hospital staff and supported by fire service officials who arrived promptly.

“No major damage was recorded, and the hospital’s operations were not affected,” she reiterated.

Adetuyibi assured the public that the hospital, under the leadership of Chief Medical Director (CMD) Prof. Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo, has implemented measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, while expressing gratitude for the continued support of the hospital community.
