An early morning fire at University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan on September 22 was swiftly contained by staff, causing no major damage or disruption to hospital operations, with officials assuring the public of safety and preventive measures.

A fire broke out early Sunday morning, September 22, at the University College Hospital (UCH) in Ibadan, sparking concern among patients, staff, and visitors.

The fire reportedly originated from a spark in the changeover box located in the Medicine Laboratory on the third floor but was quickly contained to the panel in one room, resulting in no major damage.

Witnesses credited the swift response of hospital staff for preventing the situation from worsening.

UCH’s Public Relations Officer, Mrs. Funmi Adetuyibi, confirmed the incident, stating that it did not disrupt hospital operations and clarified that circulating images on social media were not of UCH.

She assured the public of safety and mentioned that under the leadership of Chief Medical Director (CMD) Prof. Jesse Otegbayo, preventive measures are in place to avoid such occurrences in the future.

She also praised the efforts of both the hospital staff and fire service officials for their quick action in controlling the situation.
