Four SS3 Students Drown after Sneaking into Restricted Part of a Beach to Swim

Four out of 10 students from Kuramo Senior College, Lekki, Lagos, has drown in a Lekki beach after allegedly sneaking in the beach restricted area.

The students reportedly aged between 14 and 15, were reported in the beach to celebrate completing their West African Senior School Examination.

According to the spokeperson of the beach where the incident happened, the boys had came to the beach to swim but becuase they weren’t properly registered, the management refused to let them swim.

Determined to do what they came for, the students went to a restricted part of the beach, a decision they will always regret taking.

We initially sent them away from the area of the beach they wanted to swim in. Then, they went to another place that was not for the public at all. It was the child of our kinsman, Abass, who took them from school to the beach and those kids followed him.

They did not pay any gate fee to access the beach. Abass used the leverage that he was one of us to take them through another place,” said the spokesperson for the Elegushi Beach Management, Chief Ayuba Elegushi.

Speaking further, Chief Ayuba said: “Out of the six that were rescued, some escaped by the time we got there. We were able to arrest two of them and we took them to the Jakande Police Station.

As of now, there are still four missing as our seamen have not been able to bring them out of the water. We have informed their parents and they have come to the police station.

Abass is one of the missing kids. There is another boy we have not identified and two other girls”.

The spokeperson also said the affected students confirmed in their police reports that they went to swim in a restrcited area because were chased from the beam.

They wrote in their statements that they were chased from the first section they went to. Abass told them that they should not worry and he would take them to another part of the beach. He took them to another end of the beach where no one could see them,” he added.

Confirming the incident, the Lagos State Police PRO, Benjamin Hundeyin, said investigations is currently ongoing.

The teenagers were from Kuramo Senior College, Lekki. Four of them are missing. They are two males and two females. Efforts are on to recover their bodies. We have yet to meet with the parents of the victims,” Benjamin told The Punch.

Recall in the same Lagos, a five-year-old boy also drown while taking a swimming lesson.

The boy who is a student of the Redeemers Nursery and Primary School, Ogba, had gone for the swimming lesson at the Ivory Health Club, Ogundana Street, Ikeja.

During the swimming lesson, Chidera and other students were said to be playing at the tip of the pool when he slipped into it.

Narrating the story, the Father of the boy, Anthony said “I dropped my children at the Redeemers Nursery and Primary School on Acme Road, Ogba, on Monday morning, and I went to work. At 10.52am, I got a call from their head teacher, Mrs Adeola Oladipo, and she told me that my son was involved in an accident and that he had been rushed to the Ikeja Medical Centre.

I rushed down there, but what I saw was the lifeless body of my son. I asked the head teacher what happened and she said she did not know. I asked the doctor what happened and he said he was brought in dead. I asked the teachers, caregivers and workers at the club what happened and they gave no explanation.

As I was crying, my wife came in; I was trying to manage the information, but the head teacher also informed her and as she ran into the hospital, I became totally confused. I went tocontinue reading it here.
