Gombe State University has begun investigating the discovery of a newborn baby boy abandoned in a female hostel, while the child receives treatment at Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe.


Authorities at Gombe State University have launched an investigation after a newborn baby boy was reportedly found inside one of the institution’s female hostels on Friday.
The university’s spokesperson, Napthali Hadu, confirmed the incident in a statement, describing the situation as disturbing and contrary to the school’s regulations guiding student conduct.
According to him, the university management has already begun efforts to identify those connected to the incident, assuring the public that more information would be released after the investigation is completed. He added that the institution considers the matter serious and intends to ensure that anyone found responsible faces disciplinary action.
Hadu explained that he became aware of the development earlier in the day and promised to provide additional details once all necessary facts had been gathered.
The abandoned infant was immediately taken to Federal Teaching Hospital Gombe for medical attention and proper care.
Meanwhile, school authorities have reportedly restricted activities around the female hostel as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the baby.
