The announcement was made by Commissioner for Information, Prince Okey Kanu, in Umuahia.
Additionally, Kanu revealed that Ukoha Njoku has replaced Kazie Uko as the new Chief Press Secretary to revamp the administration’s media team.
“His Excellency has appointed a new Chief Press Secretary to bring extensive experience in advocacy and media management to the administration,” Kanu stated.
“The State Executive Council acknowledged the plight of Abia students abandoned in an Indian university by the former administration and approved the payment of their fees to allow them to continue their studies.”
Kanu highlighted Governor Otti’s strong commitment to the education sector, noting that the governor has also approved bursary payments for Abia students in various Nigerian law schools.
“His Excellency has approved and ensured the disbursement of bursaries to Abia students in law schools across the country,” Kanu confirmed.
Furthermore, the governor has secured accreditation for 19 courses at Abia State University, Uturu, reflecting his dedication to improving the state’s educational standards.
“Through His Excellency’s relentless efforts, 19 programs at Abia State University, Uturu, have been accredited, showcasing his commitment to making our education sector one of the best in the country,”
Kanu added.Kanu also announced the governor’s approval for establishing a football academy by Frank Onyeka, an Abia-born footballer who plays for the Super Eagles and Brentford FC in the English Premier League.
The Ministry of Lands and Housing has been directed to process the certificate of occupancy for the project within 48 hours. The academy will be located between Umuahia and Aba for accessibility.Onyeka, accompanied by his wife and Dr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s Vice Presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, received the governor’s support. Dr. Baba-Ahmed pledged full support to ensure the project’s success.
“This initiative encourages Mr. Onyeka, a proud son of Abia State, and demonstrates that the state government is ready to support similar viable projects from other individuals,” Kanu concluded.
