Graduate Attends His Graduation Ceremony in Slippers, His Reason Makes People Love Him

Cursory: Mixed reactions have trailed the decision by a Computer Science graduate to wear a traditional jalabia and slippers to his graduation

On Monday, being on 15th of December, 2023, Hot in Juba, shared a thrilling news after the 25th graduation ceremony of the University of Juba.

A graduate of Computer Science, Thokriel Yong, turned heads during the ceremony.

Yong was seen in an unusual attire different from the occassion.

He was seen in a traditional Mundari jalabia and slippers at the John Garang Mausoleum.

In a graduation ceremony filled with traditional robes and academic regalia, Thokriel Yong, a Computer Science graduate, stole the spotlight by attending the 25th University of Juba graduation in a traditional Mundari jalabia and slippers at the John Garang Mausoleum.

Yong’s unconventional attire quickly garnered social media attention, sparking mixed reactions. Some praised his choice, with one comment stating, “Being educated doesn’t change you to embrace your culture, but it opens your eyes to teach the world your diversity.

Conversely, others criticized Yong, deeming his outfit inappropriate for such a formal event.

The ceremony itself saw over 4000 students from 12 out of the university’s 23 colleges crossing the stage. Yong’s unique attire added a cultural touch to the celebration, provoking discussions on the intersection of education, tradition, and personal expression.”
