Gunmen Abduct Oyo School Principal, Students After Invading Community High School

Gunmen attacked Community High School in Oriire LGA of Oyo State, abducting the principal and several students, injuring a teacher, and triggering a police rescue operation.

Armed men invaded Community High School in Ahoro-Esinele, Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State, on Friday morning, abducting the school principal and several students during school hours. The attackers reportedly stormed the school between 8 a.m. and 9 a.m., firing gunshots that caused panic among teachers, students, and residents of the community.

The kidnapped principal was identified as Mrs. Rachael Alamu, while authorities said they were still verifying the exact number of students taken away by the gunmen. During the attack, one teacher was reportedly shot and injured, although officials had not confirmed the seriousness of the injury.

According to residents, the assailants operated for several minutes without resistance before escaping through a nearby forest. Community sources also claimed the kidnappers used the principal’s vehicle to transport the victims out of the area after the invasion.

The incident was confirmed by the Oyo State Police Command through its spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, who stated that security operatives had launched a rescue operation. The Commissioner of Police in the state was also said to have deployed tactical teams, patrol officers, and intelligence units to track down the kidnappers and secure the release of the victims.

The attack has sparked fear among parents and residents, especially over the growing insecurity affecting schools in rural communities across Nigeria. Residents criticized the slow emergency response and blamed inadequate security presence in the area. As of the time the report was filed, no arrests had been made, and authorities had not confirmed whether the abductors had contacted families or demanded ransom.
