The best graduating student of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Mr. Henry Ogorchukwu Abanum at the just concluded 46th and 47th combined Convocation Ceremonies of the institution, has received N250,000 as the “Osasere Osifo Prize for Academic Excellence” award.


The “Osasere Osifo Prize for Academic Excellence” is an initiative of Engr. Osasere Favour Osifo, who is a member of the US Airforce, a former President of the UNIBEN Students’ Union and currently the Vice-President of the University of Benin Alumni Association North America (UBAANA) chapter.
Mr Abanum had graduated with a 4.97 GPA, from the Faculty of Pharmacy.
Engr. Osifo who was represented at the event by Comrade Oguche Divine Omale a former Public Relations Officer of the Student Union Government of UNIBEN, lamented that celebrating mediocrity and shunning excellence was fast becoming a norm in the Nigerian society, hence, the need to come up with the Osasere Osifo Prize for Academic Excellence to change the order of things.
He said the feat achieved by Mr. Abanum should be praised by all lovers of excellence, hard work, and diligence.
He added that Mr. Abanum had proven that quality is never by chance but a result of intelligent effort, adding that the intelligent effort of Mr. Henry Abanum is what is being rewarded.
