9-Year-Old Prodigy Becomes Youngest Student at US University, Aspires to Be a Pediatric Neurosurgeon

Aiden Wilkins, a 9-year-old prodigy from Pennsylvania, has become the youngest student at Ursinus College, where he studies neuroscience with the goal of becoming a pediatric neurosurgeon.

An extraordinary 9-year-old, Aiden Wilkins from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, has made history as the youngest student ever admitted to Ursinus College in the United States. He is currently enrolled in neuroscience courses, with the ambitious goal of becoming a pediatric neurosurgeon.

Aiden’s Journey

From a very young age, Aiden displayed brilliance well beyond his years. At just two years old, he was already reading traffic signs while most toddlers were still learning their first words. By age three, he had developed a fascination with the human brain after watching anatomy videos.

His mother, Veronica Wilkins, recalls being amazed by his quick grasp of advanced concepts. That early curiosity turned into passion, and by the time Aiden reached high school sophomore level at Reach Cyber Charter School, he was academically ready for college.

After excelling in a benchmark test, Aiden expressed his desire to attend university. Together with his mother, he researched options and chose Ursinus College, a small but rigorous institution known for supporting exceptional students.

Life as a College Student at 9

Aiden now attends classes on campus three days a week, studying alongside students twice his age. The rest of the week, he continues his high school coursework virtually.

Professors and classmates are impressed not only by his academic ability, but also by his enthusiasm and curiosity.

“The reason why I want to be a pediatric neurosurgeon is mainly because I like helping kids around my age,” Aiden explained.

For him, the pursuit of medicine isn’t just about science—it’s about making a difference in the lives of children, particularly those living with neurodisabilities.

Support and Inspiration

His mother emphasizes that his success is entirely self-driven.

“I’m extremely proud of Aiden because it’s all him. It’s organic. I’m just behind the scenes—he goes for what he wants,” she said.

She also shared how inspiring it is to watch his journey unfold:

“It’s exciting because he’s making history, and he feels great about it. I think it’s so important for him to be seen and heard.”

Despite his extraordinary intellect, Aiden is still very much a child. He enjoys gaming, soccer, and spending time with friends, balancing his intense studies with the simple joys of being nine.
