“I Was a Teacher for 13 Years” – Man Quits Teaching to Become Suya Seller in London

Kolawole Ajayi, a Nigerian man who taught for 13 years, quit his teaching job after his suya business became more profitable and is now a successful suya seller and restaurant owner in London.

A Nigerian man, Kolawole Ajayi, has gone viral online after quitting his teaching job in Nigeria to become a suya seller in London. Ajayi, who taught for 13 years in Nigeria, revealed that his suya business was initially a part-time hustle, but it eventually became more lucrative than his teaching salary.

In an interview, Ajayi shared that he left his teaching job because his income from the suya business was half of his salary. He had been cooking and doing YouTube videos, and later started catering for people, which helped him build a customer base. When his passive income from the suya business surpassed half of his teaching salary, he decided to leave his nursery job and focus on the business full-time.

Ajayi’s decision to leave teaching was not impulsive, but a calculated move based on years of balancing both professions. He attributes his success to hard work, integrity, and a genuine desire to help others succeed. His restaurants, located in Peckham, London, serve a variety of African and Nigerian dishes, including Agege bread, Banga soup, and Edikaikong.

The suya seller’s story has sparked conversations across social media, with many praising his courage and entrepreneurial spirit. Some have shared their experiences with his suya, with mixed reviews. While some claim it’s not the best in London, others praise its authenticity.

Ajayi’s journey highlights the importance of pursuing one’s passion and taking calculated risks. His story serves as inspiration to Nigerians at home and abroad, showcasing the power of resilience and staying true to one’s roots.

Ajayi’s success has not gone unnoticed, with Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), commending him for being a true ambassador of Nigeria.
