LAUTECH Agriculture Students Protest Over Lack of Facilities

LAUTECH agriculture students protested the lack of essential facilities in their department, sparking online reactions and renewed debates about resource deficiencies in Nigerian universities.

Agriculture students at Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) have staged a protest over the absence of essential facilities, including animal and crop units, in their department.

The students voiced their frustration, highlighting that they did not enroll in a five-year course just to study local vegetables like ewedu and efo.

A viral TikTok video captured the protest, showing students carrying placards with messages such as, “No animal unit in the agriculture department,” and, “We didn’t come to a five-year course to learn only ewedu and efo.”

The video sparked widespread reactions online, with many sharing their thoughts on the state of the department and the students’ grievances:

Just a Gurl: “You people saying why are they studying Agriculture…what’s wrong with the course? If everyone runs from Agriculture, do you think life will be easy for us?”

NASROH: “See people wey dey compare themselves with Unilorin 😂.”

Shaiky The Salesperson: “Sadly, this is Nigeria’s university system.”

Oluwatosin Olorunfem: “Are they accredited by JAMB and the university commission for the course? If yes, then those who gave them accreditation should be held responsible.”

Other commenters encouraged the students to make the most of their opportunities, attend seminars, and take their industrial training and projects seriously.

The protest has reignited discussions about the quality of education and resources in Nigerian universities, particularly in specialized fields like agriculture.
